3 Smoothies You Need In Your Life
I've been having smoothies almost every single morning now for a good 10 years and here are three of my favourite recipes.
Remember the era when smoothies were everywhere?
Think smoothie bowls piled high with granola, chia seeds, peanut butter drizzles and fresh fruit, all photographed in perfect natural lighting for Instagram.
It felt like every other feed had a vibrant blend of berries, bananas, and superfoods.
That trend seems to have cooled off a bit. Maybe it was just that, a trend. Or maybe it’s because the digital world shifted from perfectly captured photos to fast paced video content.
Either way, I think it’s a shame.
Because honestly? I still bloody love smoothies!
They’ve been a staple in my lifestyle for the past 10 years, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Smoothies are one of the easiest and most delicious ways to get in a good dose of fruit and veg. They're incredibly versatile, can be packed with nutrients, and the flavour combinations are endless.
So this morning, as I sipped one of my favourites, I thought: why not share a few of my fave smoothie recipes with you lovely lot!
But before we get into it, I wanted to give you some quick tips:
Always go easy on the liquid if you want a different level thickness, the less you use the thicker the smoothie will be. Adjust it bit by bit until you are happy with the consistency.
Adding a neutral or flavoured protein powder to your smoothies is a great way to bulk them out, increase protein intake, and make them even more satisfying.
1. Banana & Peanut Butter Smoothie
A combination of peanut butter and banana in a tasty smoothie that makes for an indulgent way to start the day. I used to call this the "champion smoothie" when I first started my platform. I guess because it made me feel like one!
Ingredients:
1 banana
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 medjool date
1 tbsp flaxseed
1/4 cup oats
1 tsp maca powder (optional)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup plant milk
Pinch of salt
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender.
Blend until completely smooth. Serve and enjoy.
2. Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie Bowl
This fresh smoothie has all the aspects I love about a classic mint chocolate chip ice cream, only it’s made from plants and nourishing ingredients to help fuel your day. It might not be for everyone but it certainly is for me. Name me a better way to get your greens in, I’ll wait…
Ingredients:
1 banana frozen
1 large handful spinach
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves (without stem)
1 tsp matcha (optional)
1 tbsp almond butter
1 date, pitted
1 tbsp cacao nibs
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender with a small splash of water or plant milk.
Blend until completely smooth. Serve and enjoy.
3. Blueberry Tahini Smoothie
The tahini in this smoothie really gives it that creaminess and compliments the blueberry flavour so well. It almost tastes like a cake!
Ingredients:
1 banana
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp tahini
1 tbsp flaxseed
1 tsp maca powder
1/4 cup oats
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 cup plant milk
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender.
Blend until completely smooth. Serve and enjoy.
